The End

A TOUR 12 YEARS IN THE MAKING.  We were planning for this trip/tour in 2005, a few things have happened to postpone the trip till 2008.  There might be some changes to the itinerary, depending on time and money.  Looks like March 2008 is the time.  We have booked leaving Sydney on March 16 for Buenos Aires, then Mexico City, Havana, Cancun, Guatemala, Lima and Buenos Aires.  Only a week to go, am I nervous? Yes.  Although this a trip that I want to do We will be leaving our little friend behind, Bonita. Unfortunately she died on November 21 2008, we miss her so much. She will be in kennels for the 6 weeks I hope that she will be okay. We have been and returned.  BA & Lima were great, Cuba expensive and not worth it, Cancun, not the real Mexico. Had a great time in Chicen Itza & Uxmal.

BUENOS AIRES , the worlds greatest city.  Afew days here throughout our tour  Was there three times as we criss crossed the continent.  Still the worlds greatest city, always feel at home,  The best meal we had was at La Chacra restaurant, the food was great, Now closed down

We will be in Mexico City overnight before departing for Cuba.,  Then we have two weeks in Cancun and the Yucatan looking at Mayan sites and those of the Olmecs. Never made it, again, to Mexico City as our flight was delayed by 9 hours and we only got as far as Benito Juarez Airport, maybe next time.

CUBA, the country we have to visit before Fidel dies. Stay alive till March, Fidel.  Here is a small valliant country that has been independant from the imperialist USA since 1959.  VIVA FIDEL !!!!!  What a disappointment.  Capitalism has taken hold, never met a Cuban, other than those in the tourism industry.  The tour to Trinidad was fantastic, but Havana was overpriced due to the CUC.  With flights from the USA imminent Cuba of the revolution will be forgotten as capitalism takes over

We have two weeks in Cancun and the Yucatan looking at Mayan sites and those of the Olmecs.  Cancun, wall to wall hotels, hated it to begin with, but by the time we left loved it.  Had a great tour to the Mayan sites the highlight of the holiday. Thank God we went in 2008 and not 2009, with the swine flu

GUATEMALA

A side trip to see the Mayan ruins, A four day tour of Tikal  never went, maybe in 2010?  After the Global Crisis, the fall in the Aussie dollar maybe not
Even in 2023 after Covid19, possibly out of reach plus the increase in narco violence, definately not.

PERU. Capital Lima , home to the Chimu, Nazca, Moche  & Inca Empires. Ten days in Peru, Arequipa, Huanaco and
Lima.  What surprise Lima was, so clean and safe, totally different to 1995,  Went to Arequipa to see the sister in law, always great to be here, to see the city that is. We were thinking of a retirement in Peru, but discarded the idea.  Queensland looks good or the south coast of NSW. Since Covid house prices have skyrocketed and even in country towns prices are over $1million. But in the last 2 months, with rising inflation prices have dropped 7%. Perth is looking good, but who knows? 4
